1. Size

To cover the sizable outdoor space, the homeowners chose a 'coupled' pergola design with a double roof. The pergola roof was positioned slightly lower than the roof of the outbuilding to avoid overwhelming the space, but it remained tall enough to accommodate the outbuilding's tall doors and allow for a mounted flatscreen TV to be comfortably viewed.

2. Aesthetics

The pergola had a sleek, angular frame with a textured quartz grey powder coating, chosen to match the outbuilding's exterior. The louvres were left white to provide a subtle juxtaposition and prevent the overall design from appearing too dark or monotonous.

Once built, the pergola was installed onto a purpose-built tiled base to create a spacious indoor-outdoor transition area. This design choice maximised the luxury look and feel of the new space.

The homeowners wanted their pergola to be useful year-round, so they decided to upgrade it with mounted heaters to chase away the chill and integrated LED lighting for warm, cosy evenings. They also choose to enclose the whole space with 10 mm frameless tempered glass walls.
