Creating a Luxury Rooftop Retreat in Central London
When our client in White City, London wanted to transform their rooftop terrace into a sophisticated outdoor living space, they approached Broadview to create a solution that could be enjoyed throughout the year.
With an elevated terrace in the heart of London, the project presented a fantastic opportunity to create an additional outdoor room – but it also came with one significant challenge: how do you get a large aluminium pergola, glass panels and all the associated components through a central London building and up onto a rooftop terrace?! Our team was more than up for the challenge and succeeded as these stunning image prove!
The Brief
The aim was to create a high-end, comfortable outdoor space that could be used well beyond the summer months. The homeowner wanted a structure that would provide shelter from the elements while retaining the feeling of an open-air terrace. They also wanted the space to feel luxurious after dark, with integrated lighting and heating allowing the terrace to become an extension of the home in the evenings.
After discussing the requirements and assessing the terrace, we proposed the Brustor B200XL Pergola System as the ideal solution.
The B200XL combines a contemporary aluminium structure with a motorised rotating louvred roof, allowing the occupants to control their environment at the touch of a button. Its integrated drainage system also helps to keep the terrace protected when the louvres are closed.
The Challenge: Getting a Pergola onto a London Roof Terrace
Installing a pergola at ground level can present its own challenges. Installing one on a rooftop terrace in central London is a different proposition altogether. The location meant that the team couldn't simply unload the pergola components from a van and carry them directly into the garden. Every component needed to make its way through the building and up to the roof terrace. This required careful planning before installation could even begin.
The logistics had to be considered alongside the installation itself, ensuring that the pergola structure, glass panels, heating and lighting components could all reach the terrace safely and in the correct sequence.
It was a challenging installation environment, but one that demonstrated the importance of having an experienced installation team capable of managing projects where access isn't straightforward.
The Solution: Brustor B200XL
We installed the Brustor B200XL pergola, creating a sophisticated covered outdoor space on the roof terrace that could be adapted to suit the weather and time of day. The motorised louvres can be rotated to control the amount of sunlight entering the space and closed when shelter is required. For this particular project, the pergola was taken a step further with a fully enclosed glass solution. The combination of the louvred roof and four sides of sliding glass creates a flexible environment that can be opened up when the weather is good or enclosed when additional protection is required.
Designed for Day and Night
The integrated features were particularly important in making this rooftop terrace a genuinely usable space beyond the warmer summer months. The integrated louvre lighting provides subtle illumination after dark, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere without the need for separate outdoor lighting. And two integrated 2kW heaters provide additional warmth when temperatures drop, making the space much more comfortable during cooler evenings and throughout the shoulder seasons. Combined with the sliding glass, the pergola effectively creates an outdoor room that can adapt to changing conditions.
The Result
The completed installation has transformed the rooftop terrace into a luxurious, versatile outdoor living space in the heart of White City. And despite the logistical challenges of getting the entire system through the building and onto the roof, our experienced installation team delivered a seamless finished result.
