5 fun summer activities for kids you can do in your garden

After months of life in lockdown, it can be tricky to keep your kids (and big kids) entertained! So, here’s a few ideas for some fun activities you can do in your very own garden to help keep your little ones physically and mentally challenged.
1) Plan a treasure hunt
A treasure hunt is a fun way to get your children up and active and exploring all the hidden areas of your garden. You can simply hide items around your outside space or to make it a little more challenging, you could try riddle clues that mean they have to use some brain power to find the goodies.
2) Go garden camping
Defeat the blues of cancelled or postponed holidays by creating your own campsite in the garden. Pitch your tent, light the fire pit and wrap up warm as you toast marshmallows together as a family. Or, if you have a pergola with side panels or sliding glass, you can ditch the complicated tent set up and relax in your garden pod.
3) Build a bug hotel
Get creative while your children learn about nature by building the bugs in your garden their own 5-star hotel. All you need is some natural materials to stick together such as grass, hay, old plant pots, pine cones, bark, dry leaves and sticks. Why not choose a name for your hotel and make a sign to hang over the entrance?
4) Host your own sports day
Many children will have missed out on the annual sports day this year so why not create your own in your back garden? The whole family can join in the fun as you compete in egg and spoon races, throwing contests, sack racing, tug of war and all your old favourites!
5) Outdoor art time
If you fancy something a little slower paced, try creating works of art out of the things you find in your garden. Foraging for materials, from leaves and flowers to pebbles and feathers, will get everyone active while putting them together in a creative way will require firing up those creative areas of the brain.
6) Garden cinema
Make it feel like movie night by hooking up a screen and projector (or mobile TV) outside in the garden. A pergola with side panels and built in heaters is the perfect sheltered place to enjoy your favourite film.
